Messe 1989

Beginning

multitech ag was founded in 1987 for the development, production and distribution of electronic display systems. The second business area was the installation of security systems and low-voltage installations in buildings. The first projects included the production of electronic exchange rate displays. Customers were the federal railways and local railways, as well as individual banks and exchange offices.

Technologically, LED was the choice in the early years. Alphanumeric systems were soon used in addition to numeric displays. Multitech developed display systems for prisons to alert staff to call and alarm messages at various locations in the building. The challenge was the interface to the different data suppliers.

multitech and avacom

At the beginning of the 90s, multitech took over the technical support of what was probably the first digital signage project in Switzerland. At over 250 points of sale (kiosks) and in more than 100 shop branches, moving message signs were installed and operated. The main purpose was to enable a large Swiss oulevard newspaper to publish its headlines on a daily basis.

Around 1995 multitech developed the first LCD based lettering systems. Main customers were hotels and conference centres. The systems were installed in more than 25 countries.

In 1998 a subsidiary company was founded in Germany and in 2002 the low voltage division was spun off.

The sister company was given the name avacom. This company also took over the subsidiary in Germany. Today, avacom ag focuses mainly on the distribution, installation and maintenance of security and automation systems for libraries. Several hundred libraries, primarily in German-speaking countries, are among avacom's customers.

multitech supplies professional digital signage solutions not only to hotels and conference centres, but also to shopping centres, retailers, restaurants, banks, public and private administrations, etc.
Both companies are still 100% family-owned.
